I'm writing a piece about video games for an anthology about representations of disability, and I only got about 400 words in before I started to slip into an academic voice, like, In this essay I will explore themes relating to

Actually let's just cut that off right there.

It's like I'm having to retrain myself to write like a normal human being. Also remember: short sentences, short paragraphs.

Anyway, I think I want to talk about Final Fantasy VI, Journey, and Hyper Light Drifter. I keep waiting for someone else to write this essay so that I can read and enjoy it, but if no one else will do it then I'll just have to write it myself I guess.

I also want to write about Night in the Woods, but it still might be a little too soon for that.

THANK YOU FOR WRITING THIS FAB PIECE WITH THESE EQUALLY FAB EXAMPLES.

Seriously, my heart sings whenever people talk about disability narratives within games, because yes, give me all the complex stories of these characters taking on these challenges they never asked for. Part of that is me, someone with fucked up health, just appreciating the fact I can see myself represented in games, but wow it also makes stories (interactive ones, at that) a lot more interesting when you add a layer of "also, this character cannot perfectly perform some things and that's ok."
