I have a friend from grad school who now lives in Virginia and is pursuing some sort of torrid affair with a woman who works in DC. He has two lovely daughters, and he knows I love kids, so he leaves them with me when he can't find a sitter.
Even though I was supposed to be getting ready to get on a plane to LA, he dumped the two girls on me for most of the day. I needed to keep them occupied while I wrapped up some loose ends, so I did what any reasonable adult would do and put them in front of the TV.
They said they wanted to watch Beauty and the Beast, which they have never seen before because their dad thinks it will fuck them up. I was pissed at their dad, and I was still riding the feels from this fabulous gifset, so I put it on.
The two of them sat there mesmerized like little zombies, but when it was over they couldn't shut up. The little one was so excited that she forgot her English, and the older one had me play "Be Our Guest" on the ukulele until she was absolutely certain that she had learned all the words (and I let it happen because this is how angry I was with her father, true story).
Anyway, the older one eventually starts talking about her impressions of the movie, and she's obviously upset by Gaston's death. She couldn't accept that he had to die, and she seemed especially concerned by the fact that Beast was the one most directly responsible for his death. I was like, "But honey, Gaston was trying to kill Beast, and Beast didn't have a choice," and she was like, "They could have just talked; they have so much in common, and I'm sure they would have been friends if they had gotten to know one another, maybe they could have even gotten married one day."
She was extremely passionate about this, and I swear her eyes were legitimately sparkling.
It was fucking adorable.
