This was a good movie, but the best part was the trailer for the new Star Wars.
I have Very Strong Feelings about Star Wars. Essentially, I love the movies – all of them – but I think the Jedi are assholes. When there was a tiny clip of a wounded storm trooper taking off his helmet in the trailer, I had to try very hard not to start crying and screaming in public. I was almost successful.
Okay, but Ant-Man though.
This was the most cleverly written movie I have seen this year. The set pieces were stylish. The acting was not bad. The ridiculous female gaze camera pan over shirtless Paul Rudd turned me straight for a few minutes. Every scene with Michael Peña made me proud to be a human being.
The movie has just about everything I like in movies: suits, science indistinguishable from magic, quantum physics, cool set designs, heists, hot dads,May-November romance, and riding around on fantastical flying creatures. The only thing that rubbed me the wrong way was the "no homo" bit at the end when Paul Rudd kisses Evangeline Lilly, which was weird because Paul Rudd had good chemistry with everyone in the movie except Evangeline Lilly. Not that there's anything wrong with Evangeline Lilly, of course. She was lovely.
The only major plot holes involved the science aspects, but who cares, I mean honestly.
