- Goddess Reborn, a fanzine celebrating the female characters of the Legend of Zelda series, has preorders open through the end of May on Etsy (here). I posted a preview of my zine story on Twitter (here) and on Tumblr (here). I'm very proud of my work for this zine, and the energy surrounding this project has been incredible. Honestly I feel very fucking blessed to have found myself in such a friendly and positive community.

- Speaking of friendly and positive communities. Return to the Planet, a zine focusing on the original release of Final Fantasy VII, has opened preorders for a print edition (here). The digital version is still 100% free to download (here), but it received such a strong response that the mods decided to go ahead and print the zine. I'm given to understand that it met its funding goal in less than twelve hours. I think this is partially because people love Final Fantasy VII, but it's also a direct result of the community surrounding this zine being absolutely magical.

- I'm still working on Chapter 9 of The Demon King, but I sat down and wrote a complete rough draft of Chapter 10. Chapter 10 is when the beat drops and the reader understands for the first time just how big the stakes are. The chapter is actually kind of good maybe, and I have no idea where it came from.

- Just like The Demon King Chapter 10, I somehow managed to sit down and write a complete first draft of my story for the Night in the Woods zine. It's good... or it least it will be, once I put some time into editing it. Again, I have no idea where this writing came from. It just sort of happened.

- I finished the first rough draft of my original story "The Greenhouse." Once I have a solid edited draft, I'll commission a cover illustration for my botanical horror zine, and perhaps a spot illustration for this specific story.

- One of my all-time favorite artists opened commissions this week, so I contacted her to request an illustration to use as a header for a post on my book review blog. I think this post has the potential to attract a bit of attention, and it might also serve as a nice portfolio piece to link to when I send pitches to editors I haven't worked with before. The post is going to be an annotated list of reading recommendations for popular-audience books about Japanese culture and society. I've already compiled the list, but I'm still in the process of annotating it.

I haven't drawn any art of my own recently. Every once in a while I have a super ADHD week where I have a lot of ideas but can't sit down at a desk to save my life, and I've learned that it's best to ride these waves when they come. Discipline is important, but so is chasing joy.

Both of those zines sound really neat! I'm glad they have good community around them.

Sometimes you let the waves take you where they want to go. Discipline is for the days when the inspiration isn't there, imo.
