2022 Writing Log 18

- I edited (and partially rewrote) Chapter 11 of The Demon King, as well as the first half of Chapter 9. On one hand, I’m frustrated with how slowly this is going; but, on the other hand, I only returned to this project in earnest at the beginning of April. Eleven chapters in two months isn’t bad.
- I wrote some background about the character Ananth and how magic informs the modern world he comes from. I posted it along with an illustration by Sam Beck (here).
- I decided to go ahead and finish the semi-realistic sketch of Wind Waker Ganondorf that I posted on Dreamwidth (here), and I posted the finished version on Tumblr (here).
- I am now officially tired of drawing adult men, so I drew another plant and posted it (here). To be honest, I’m kind of tired of drawing plants too, but I wanted to get this piece out of my drafts folder. I feel like I’ve hit a wall where I’m not seeing a lot of improvement between drawings, and I’m not sure what to do next… Maybe a silly comic that I don’t put too much effort into and leave relatively sketchy? It might be nice to focus on gesture drawing for once.
- Skirtzzz on Twitter drew a gorgeous picture of Agnes from An Unfound Door (here). I requested this commission in December, back when I was considering focusing on that novel project. Skirtzzz accepted the commission, but it took some time to complete because her work is in high demand, which is as it should be. I ended up not working on An Unfound Door this year, but it’s nice to know that I’ve got an opening set of chapters and a fantastic piece of inspirational character art for when I decide to get back into it.
- Geezmarty on Twitter finished my banner illustration for my blog post on popular-audience books on Japanese culture and society, which I posted (here). What I love about Marty’s work is how they create a unique sense of action through bold design and exciting color palettes, and I knew they could make an illustration of someone reading look exciting.
And finally, I drove to New Jersey and bought a couch! A real one! Like an actual adult! I’m not sure if this counts as an accomplishment, but I’m extremely proud of myself.
