The Adventures of Peaches, Part Three
Jul. 20th, 2022 07:41 amPeaches did not kill any dragons yesterday evening. I just couldn't bring myself to do it.
Instead, Peaches traveled south to the Weeping Peninsula, an optional area associated with Limgrave, the starting "continent." Once he crossed the bridge, Peaches was met by a refugee and tasked with delivering a letter to Castle Morne, a fortified structure at the southern end of the land mass.
Castle Morne has been besieged by "Misbegotten," a type of demihuman creature with wings. If you read the flavor text for the weapons that Misbegotten sometimes drop when you kill them, it essentially says that they're an oppressed race. This sounds horrible, except the Misbegotten in Castle Morne have been keeping humans in cages so that they can eat them. They don't seem to have language or the ability to communicate with one another, and they don't wear clothing or possess any other sign of individuality or sapience.
I'm sure there's more story here, but I am very much side-eyeing this lore as I currently understand it. If you create an "oppressed race" but then make it clear that they are objectively subhuman and need to be oppressed so that they don't kill and eat people, that's maybe something that needs to be treated both with more clarity and with more nuance.
In any case, Castle Morne is a fun optional dungeon that isn't too difficult and has an interesting spatial layout. I managed to make it to the end boss gate without locating the person to whom I was asked to deliver the refugee's letter, so this evening I'm going to start the area over from the beginning so that I can find him. I love how Castle Morne is set up, and I'm looking forward to taking the time to explore it.
