2022 Writing Log 32

This past week brought another round of rejection letters, but a few good things happened too.
- What Should Do With Your Body?, an original murder mystery zine, is now available to download for free on Itchio (here). The zine is a fun short story collection filled with lovely art and graphic design, and I’m impressed that the mods were able to pull off the project so well.
- I submitted a writer application to Endure, My Heart, an original video game adventure fiction zine. All the zine’s info is on Carrd (here). I’m not entirely certain that this project has attracted enough attention to go anywhere, but we’ll see.
- I was invited to join Hyrule Apocrypha, a story-centric zine about Legend of Zelda lore. I was planning on not applying to this zine, as I’m way more interested in other people’s fanfic than my own at this point. Still, if the mods invited me, I figured that I might as well accept. It’s an honor. Also, I ended up writing pitches despite myself. If you’re curious about the zine, it’s on Twitter (here) and on Tumblr (here).
- I edited Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 of An Unfound Door again. I also edited and then re-edited Chapter 5.
- I wrote chapter summaries, created preview graphics, and drafted #WIPWednesday tweets for these three chapters. Maybe sharing this story on social media is cringe, but… whatever.
- I finished, edited, and submitted a professional academic book review of a collection of essays about JRPGs. To summarize: it’s good. I love when editors are smart people who know what they’re doing.
- My review of Harmony Becker’s graphic novel Himawari House was published on Women Write About Comics (here). Even if you don’t care about Asian-American identity, this is one of the best graphic novels I’ve read in the past two or three years. I don’t want to say that the book “feels like manga” just because it was created by a Japanese-American artist, but it has strong josei manga stylistic influences that I very much appreciate.
Other than that, the new Stephen King book just dropped, as did a new Zelda trailer. Life is good.
