Airoheart is a 16-bit top-down adventure game that's almost-but-not-quite copyright infringement on A Link to the Past. It costs $40, and it's bad. It's very, very bad.
To start: The writing is bad. "Bad" as in "unoriginal, uninspired, and boring," but also "bad" as in "filled with typos." The graphics have no charm. The music is unremarkable. There's nothing special about the game mechanics.
But the worst thing is that the game is needlessly hard. Not hard like Dark Souls hard, but hard like "what the fuck were they thinking." Even the simplest enemy has a ranged attack, but this attack is invisible. There is no animation to signal the attack, and you don't see any projectiles. Instead, you'll be walking around and suddenly take damage. So I'm not sure if this is an issue with the hitboxes being extraordinarily poorly programmed or what, but it sucks.
To make matters worse, there is an extremely loud gunshot noise every time you take damage, and I mean extremely loud. And it's definitely a gunshot noise. So you'll be walking around, and there will be an enemy on the other side of the screen, and suddenly there will be a gunshot and your character will take damage. What the fuck.
What I think happened is that the game wasn't play-tested. Nobody double-checked the writing, and nobody did any quality assurance on the gameplay. According to reviews, it's also filled with glitches.
I recently saw a post on Tumblr that was like, "The problem with modern audiences is that they have no patience," and I totally get that, but the truth is that a lot of media is just really bad. And not only is Airoheart bad, it's also $40. I have no patience for this, so I returned it for a refund.
