- I formatted the zine for my “Japanese Ghost Stories” zine and sent it to the printer. This zine ended up becoming an actual perfect-bound book. I’m really proud of the work the students did, and I’m proud of the work I did as well.
I know this is just one item on a weekly list, but I put a ton of love and care into the project. So here’s more celebration: Heck yes! I made an actual book! A beautiful book that I’m going to be able to hold in my hands and share with people! And I did everything in a week! That’s amazing!! Also…
- I’m working on Chapter 9 of An Unfound Door. I didn’t have a lot of free time this week, so I’ve been working on the chapter in bits and pieces. I think I’m about half done with the first draft.
- I created two potion designs, which feels like enough potion designs for the time being. I’m going to table this project for now, but maybe I’ll come back to it later. I posted the drawings on Tumblr (here) and (here).
- I’ve also been working on a larger piece that I’ve code-named “the gayest thing I’ve ever drawn.” Instead of rushing to finish it, I’m lingering over details and giving it as much time as it needs.
- Although I never got the rights to publish my translation of Hiromi Kawakami’s short story “Summer Break,” the journal ended up deciding to print the short introduction by itself. I’ve posted the abstract along with links to a PDF of the essay and a PDF of my unofficial translation of the story on my website (here).
- My illustrated short story “Quiet Haunting” was published in the Philly Zine Fest 2022 Anthology! The anthology is always good, but this year it’s especially excellent. A digital version of the anthology will eventually be made available on the organization’s website (here), but I went ahead and posted my piece on my own website (here).
