I tried to play the cult-favorite indie horror game Anatomy (on Itchio here), but I didn't get very far. The visual contrast wasn't high enough on my laptop screen, and I couldn't figure out a way to adjust the brightness in the game itself. So, instead of walking through a dark house, I couldn't walk anywhere because I couldn't see anything.

Then I tried to watch a few playthroughs, but this was also difficult, as the recorded audio in the game is impossible to understand as speech. I don't think I necessarily have audio processing issues, but the tapes that your character listens to are a little too lo-fi for me, especially as relayed third-hand through YouTube videos of Twitch streams.

I feel bad for saying this, but horror game developers have got to be less precious about brightness settings and subtitles. I promise that it doesn't detract from the spookiness of the experience if the player isn't constantly having to worry about extradiegetic accessibility issues.

Thankfully! Some wonderful person has created a transcript of the audio tapes included in the game, which you can find on Tumblr (here). The transcript is about 1800 words and takes six or seven minutes to read, and it's fantastic. I like this as a self-contained horror story, but I love the broader concept of how a house might become haunted.
