2022 Writing Log 41
Dec. 10th, 2022 08:04 am- I finished the first draft of Chapter 10 of An Unfound Door. It’s messy, but it exists.
- I commissioned Anta ARF to create a portrait of Agnes, the main character of An Unfound Door. The illustration is on Tumblr (here). It’s quite nice, if I do say so myself. Anta’s commission info is on Twitter (here), and I’m looking forward to working with her again sometime soon.
- I edited the first draft of “A Legend of Shadows,” the story I’m contributing to the Hyrule Apocrypha fanzine. It was substantially over the suggested 2k wordcount, so I had to completely rewrite the middle. I might edit the cut text back into the story when the time comes to post it on AO3, but we’ll see how I feel… next August, probably?
- I also compiled visual references and suggested a few prompts for the page artist and the spot artist. I got really lucky with my assignments, so I just want to give the artists the material they need and then get out of their way.
- My review of You Died: An Anthology of the Afterlife has been posted on the Women Write About Comics website (here). Huzzah!
- I had two short stories accepted for publication, both by small presses. I am cautiously optimistic, but I also think an “I’ll believe it when I see it in print” attitude is probably healthy.
- I wrote a post called “Bad Writing Advice” for the Get Your Words Out community (here) on Dreamwidth. I’m not sure I’ll volunteer to contribute anything next year, as I’m really not in a position to talk about writing or offer advice to anyone. Still, it was a lot of fun to write a few posts for the community this year, and I was honored to be included.
- And finally! I wrote a short Bowser/Luigi story called “A Hard Day’s Work” and posted it on AO3 (here). It’s a bit of a hack job, but I like to think it has one or two good lines.
I also finished all my grading. I had to be strict with a few students toward the end, and that’s not a role I’m suited for. Probably the students are used to professors setting firm deadlines, but it was unpleasant for me. Everyone eventually managed to get their shit together, so all’s well that ends well... I guess? This was an unusually long semester, and I definitely need a break.
