2023 Writing Log, Part Seven

- I finished Chapter Five and Chapter Six of the nanotech novel. Onward!
- I’m still working on my Breath of the Wild Classical Mythology AU story. I decided to divide it into three chapters. I went ahead and posted the first chapter on AO3 (here).
- I edited the first two chapters of my Breath of the Wild Coffeeshop AU story, which is on AO3 (here). As I suspected while I was writing this, it’s kind of stupid, but the final chapter is surprisingly decent. Also, the artist I commissioned to create an illustration recently sent me a gorgeous line draft.
- I finally finished my essay on Elden Ring and submitted it to my editor. I put this mess through four separate drafts, which took a month and a half. That’s good to know, that a 2k-word nonfiction essay takes me about 45 days to write.
- Speaking of things that took me a long time to write, my review of Jenn Woodall’s lunarpunk graphic novel Space Trash was published on Women Write About Comics (here). It recently struck me that the line between “anarchist” and “fascist” has grown alarmingly thin, so I’m not super into anything “punk” these days, but I really enjoyed this book. If nothing else, Woodall’s super-detailed art style is a thing of beauty.
- I did a bunch of facial studies of girls in glasses this week. These studies culminated in a more refined color illustration that I posted on Tumblr (here).
- I completely sold out of all of my zines and stickers. I’m not sure if this is really an accomplishment, but it’s a relief to be able to step away from Etsy for a while.
Not much else to report this week. Mostly I’m still butthurt that my book proposal was rejected. There’s nothing to be done except to get over it and start walking in a different direction.
