2023 Writing Log, Part Eight

rynling- I wrote Chapter 7 of the nanotech novel. God this is a mess. I keep telling myself that it’s just the first draft, and that I can fix it later. The important thing is to keep moving forward before I run out of steam.
- I finished my Breath of the Wild Classical Mythology AU story. Finally! For the time being, I edited and posted the middle chapter on AO3 (here).
- My story about human sacrifice and cannibalism in rural Pennsylvania is appearing in a folk horror anthology called Spun Stories, which is available for preorder (here). The editor is a talented artist and graphic designer who goes out of his way to promote the work of the writers he publishes, and he’s also really on the ball about getting his publications printed and shipped quickly while networking with the indie horror community. If you ever have a chance to submit to Myth & Lore magazine, it’s good times all around. Anyway, (here) is a video on Instagram of the editor showing off the Spun Stories book.
- I was thinking that I’d like to completely overhaul my Haunted Houses zine, so I commissioned Megan Crow (on Instagram here) to create a new cover illustration. I still love the old cover illustration, which I’m still going to use for the interior covers and the bookmark. I actually prefer the aesthetic of the original design, but I was thinking, maybe something with a brighter color palette would be better for the Etsy crowd?
- I got very excited about the leaked Tears of the Kingdom concept art, so to calm down I drew an ikebana flower arrangement and posted it on Tumblr (here).
I typically don’t write about real-world political issues on this blog; but, for the past month, I’ve been upset about the giant chemical spill in Ohio. Really upset. Furious, even. I’m not convinced that this is actually doing any good in the world, but I sure have been writing letters to my Pennsylvania state representatives and congresspeople. I should probably chill out and try to get back to work.
