Thomas Was Alone
Sep. 29th, 2015 08:49 amThis game seems to be an exercise in finding an answer to the question "Can rectangles and squares jumping around in a minimalist platformer make me cry."
SPOILER: Yes. Yes they can.
The funny thing is that I played Steins;Gate all the way through completely dry eyed. I guess that, for me, world-shattering tragedy is less of a trigger for tears than shared triumph through friendship.
Of course, Steins;Gate doesn't have the gorgeous soundtrack of Thomas Was Alone, and it doesn't have Danny Wallace narrating either. I'm also a huge sucker for stories about artificial intelligence being joyously born and finding acceptance and happiness. Nothing melts my heart like robots being friends.
