Real-Life Google Horror Story: The Sequel
Mar. 21st, 2023 08:35 amOkay, one more. Content warning for real life being weird and upsetting.
There’s an interesting-looking building on the border of my neighborhood in South Philadelphia that I sometimes drive by on the way home from work. It’s difficult to describe, but basically, someone bought two (or possibly three?) adjoining townhouses and remodeled their collective exterior to look vaguely like a castle. There’s no street number on the outside, but I finally got curious enough about this place to make an educated guess and google it.
Although the business seems to have closed at the start of the pandemic, the building(s?) used to house a professional photography studio. They had two specialties.
One of these specialties was Harry Potter themed photos, primarily of children and their parents. The samples I saw were really good. You can tell that the studio put a lot of effort into creating magical props and backdrops, and they clearly put a lot of love and care into their postproduction photo editing.
The other specialty was artistic nudes of heavily pregnant people in hardcore BDSM gear. When I say “artistic,” I don’t mean “sexy.” Rather, I mean real épater la bourgeoisie Francisco Goya style grotesquerie. This wasn’t a single themed series of photos, but apparently someone’s life work.
Of all the money the Harry Potter craze generated, I guess that’s not the worst way it could have been spent. At the same time, I wish I didn’t have to see those photos with my own two eyes.
Anyway, because it’s been closed for several years, I don’t think you’ll be able to find this place online if you don’t type in the exact address. I know this makes it sound as though I’m making it up. God I wish I were.
