Like the bourgeois degenerates we are, my husband and I eat breakfast in bed with the dogs while reading the news. There was a wild one this morning:

Woman shoots man armed with crowbar in University City
https://www.cbsnews.com/philadelphia/news/philadelphia-shooting-university-city-crime-crowbar-chestnut-streets/

What happened yesterday afternoon that, in a fit of road rage, a 22yo man got out of his car and smashed the window of the car in front of him. This was a mistake for multiple reasons, not the least of which was that the 27yo woman he attempted to attack was licensed to carry. She fired one shot that got him right in the balls. I think the situation of a civilian having a handgun in a private vehicle is insane, but I sort of feel like... good for her. The dude with the crowbar lived, and a follow-up report from this morning says that he's about as fine as he can be.

This happened at 30th and Chestnut, which is right by the central Philadelphia train station. It's a shitty intersection even on a good day, and they've recently started doing construction on the Chestnut Street Bridge about a block away. Chestnut (one of the main east-west avenues through Philadelphia) is a one-way street; so if you get stuck there, you're stuck there. Obviously I don't advocate for assaulting anyone, but I can totally understand where the dude with the crowbar was coming from.

I live really close to the Actual Worst Intersection In Philadelphia, which is between the UPenn Hospital and the on-ramp for the I-76 at 34th and Grays Ferry. This intersection is filled with horrible potholes, ghost bikes (the bikes painted white and chained to street signs to serve as memorials to cyclists killed in traffic accidents), and the worst road rage you've ever seen in your life. One of the wilder things I've seen with my own eyes was some guy getting out of his car and spraypainting CUNT on the back of an SUV that cut him off before he could get through the traffic light.

Anyway, Philadelphia was just named one of the most affordable cities to buy a house...

Philly is among 4 U.S. cities where owning a home is cheaper than renting

...along with Detroit and Cleveland. Damn I wonder why no one wants to buy a house here.
