2023 Writing Log, Part 22
Jun. 23rd, 2023 08:38 am- I edited Chapter 5 of The Demon King and posted it on AO3 (here). This chapter was tricky. I had to cut out a significant portion of the story, and then I had to work around people having conversations about events that didn’t happen. I completely rewrote big chunks of this chapter, but everything turned out okay in the end.
- My review of the Game Boy horror adventure game Fishing Vacation was published on Sidequest (here). Fishing Vacation a neat little game that takes about 45 minutes to play and only costs $2, and it has a good balance of horror and humor. I usually hate fishing minigames, but Fishing Vacation doesn’t bother too much with the skill-based aspects of its fishing and has a lot of fun with the gothic horror of its “cabin in the woods” concept.
- Speaking of fishing horror, I really want to play Dredge, which a friend described to me as “Wind Waker meets Shadow Over Innsmouth.” Unfortunately, I hate the game’s generic “made for XBox with Unity” graphic style. Maybe I’ll check it out when I get sick of Tears of the Kingdom. Which might be really soon tbh.
- I finally finished my essay for the Hyrule Fashion Anthology zine. I hardcore cried my way through the last two paragraphs. The Wind Waker gets me every time.
- I posted the fifth part of my botanical horror comic Seeded Ground on Tumblr (here). This is where the body horror starts.
I also cleaned my house, organized the files on my laptop, repotted some plants, donated (or just plain threw away) a bunch of books, and did some pruning on social media. I had big solstice energy this week… and also jury duty. Everyone was very chill and friendly, and it was surprisingly not as bad as I thought it would be.
