- I edited Chapter 11 of The Demon King and posted it on AO3 (here). This is the beginning of the second story arc, and it’s a nice resting point before I introduce the major conflict.
- I also edited Chapter 12, which I posted on AO3 (here). I’m still very much in love with Lalou’s illustration of Ceres and Weive. I hope these characters were as much fun to draw as they are to write.
- I finished the first draft of a Legend of Zelda horror story in which Zelda comes back wrong at the end of Tears of the Kingdom. It’s called “Divine Beast.” I had to kill a lot of darlings to make this story work, but I like how it turned out. I’ll need to edit it before posting, of course.
- I finished up my “Best Wells in Tears of the Kingdom” series of essays, which is on AO3 (here). I was incredibly lucky to be able to commission an illustration from MiroiMirage, who is on Twitter (here). I really enjoyed working with them, and the piece they created for me is fantastic. I posted the illustration along with a link to the series on Tumblr (here).
- I made a silly drawing of Ganon being jealous of Sonia’s gorgeous hair and posted it on Tumblr (here).
- I drew a still life of a fancy teacup with some foxglove flowers and posted it on Tumblr (here). I created my own photo reference for this and then immediately threw away the flowers, which are highly poisonous. Murder tea is only fun in fiction.
- I finished the first round of line edits for the stories in my Terrible People zine! I also got the final draft of the cover, which is gorgeous. I should be able to get started on the layout this coming week.
- I wrote a short review of Jon Klassen’s picture book The Skull for Women Write About Comics. This probably won’t appear until early September, but TLDR: everything about The Skull is incredible. I don’t generally go in for children’s fiction, but The Skull is more like a horror story that uses the medium of “a child’s picture book” to full effect (without being gimmicky) in order to be as creepy as possible.
In other news, my tiny urban concrete backyard is now so filled with plants that it has started to attract bees. This is cool as hell not gonna lie.
