2023 Writing Log, Part 28
Aug. 13th, 2023 08:31 am- I took the draft of Chapter 16 of The Demon King that I started writing last August and finally finished it. I’ll need to let it sit for a while before I start editing, but it feels good to be making fresh progress in the story.
- I finished editing “Divine Beast,” a psychological horror story about Princess Zelda coming back strange at the end of Tears of the Kingdom. I posted it on AO3 (here).
- I created a creepy illustration to accompany “Divine Beast,” which I posted along with a promo for the story on Tumblr (here).
- “Divine Beast” was the third story I wanted to use as a portfolio piece for Blood Moon Rising, a Legend of Zelda horror zine, so I submitted an application as a writer. I posted my pitches on Dreamwidth (here).
- I really enjoyed working with Taxkha on an illustration of Ganon’s Puppet Zelda (this one right here), so I commissioned them to create a design of teenage Ganondorf. They did a fantastic job, and they posted the piece on Tumblr (here). It was a true pleasure to work with Taxkha, and I’m happy I had a chance to discover their art.
- I used Taxkha's design as an illustration for "The Flower Thief," a short story about young Ganondorf visiting Hyrule that I wrote back in 2021. I remember being really proud of this story, but my writing has improved during the past two years, so I took the opportunity to edit it again. If you're interested, the story is on AO3 (here).
- I finished the page layout of Terrible People, my upcoming dark fantasy short fiction zine. I’m still waiting for one more illustration, but that’s okay. This time around I’d like to do a super careful line edit of the PDF file before I send it to print, so there’s time.
Also, I got to write an essay for Sidequest about the early FromSoft game Evergrace! I’m afraid it might be more than a month before this goes live, but fingers crossed it’s published sooner. I’m really excited about this piece, and writing it over the past two weeks while playing Elden Ring has been pure joy.
