- I edited Chapter 16 of The Demon King and posted it on AO3 (here). A kind internet stranger left a comment on this chapter that I very much appreciate: “I can't imagine explaining HVAC to a wizard.” Bless.
- I thought it might be fun to create a small print run of my Seeded Ground minicomic, so I did. I’ll probably drop off a few copies at local Philadelphia bookstores, and I’ll keep some on hand for if I ever have the opportunity to table at another zine fest. Mostly, though, I’m hoping that holding a physical print copy of my work will inspire me to make more comics.
- I finally finished editing and formatting my Terrible People short fiction zine, and I sent the file to the printer. The zine has 52 pages (not including the cover), so I was able to print it with a spine. This required a lot of extra formatting work, and I hope everything turns out okay.
- I designed and printed a bookmark and a sticker to go with the zine. I already got the stickers, which were printed on kraft paper by StickerApp, and they’re quite nice.
- I also designed and printed an ACEO card (ie, a trading card sized miniprint) for the zine. The theme is “poisonous plants,” and I posted the art for the front of the card on Tumblr (here).
- My review of the recent English translation of Kyoko Okazaki’s 1994 graphic novel River’s Edge has been posted on Women Write About Comics (here). River’s Edge is like an anti-shōjo manga about teenagers at the margins of society being evil to one another. This is the sort of gritty “all the trigger warnings” graphic novel that I wouldn’t recommend to everyone, but I really enjoyed it. I think it’s an important piece of art, and I’m grateful that it’s available in English.
- I finished editing my syllabi for the fall semester, and I also finished setting up the course websites on Canvas. This is the first time in years that I haven’t waited until the last second, and it feels kind of nice.
I’m still not ready for the semester to begin, though. Why can’t it just be summer forever.
