- I’m very slowly writing Chapter 17 of The Demon King.

- I’m very slowly writing Chapter 11 of An Unfound Door.

- Yes!! Two novels at once! I cannot choose; I love them both so much.

- I’m very slowly editing Chapter 9 of An Unfound Door, which I wrote around this time last year.

- I’m very slowly re-editing my Lovecraftian romance “The Annotated Kitab al-Azif” to prepare it for submission.

- I did another edit of my essay on the early FromSoft game Evergrace and pinged my editor at Sidequest to remind them to add it to the editing queue.

- My review of the Game Boy horror game Soul Void was posted on Sidequest (here). Soul Void is free to play/download on Itchio (here), and it’s an amazing game. I’d describe it as “Undertale for people who love horror but hate bullet hell.”

- My review of Sas Milledge’s graphic novel Mamo was posted on Women Write About Comics (here). I also posted a short essay on why this story resonated with me on my own website (here).

- I’m very slowly working on a commissioned review of Daniel Dockery’s book Monster Kids: How Pokémon Taught a Generation to Catch Them All. This book is a media history of American children’s programming in the 2000s. It’s interesting to read, and I have a sneaking suspicion that the author is a big Digimon nerd. Bless his heart.

- I tried out a new coloring style on a simple drawing of a Korok, which I posted on Tumblr (here).

This week was anxiety hell for me, and I played a lot of Elden Ring to escape from the stress. I need to photosynthesize sunlight or I will die, but I can understand why people become shut-ins. It’s probably a blessing that the fall semester begins this coming week. A new strain of Covid is going around, so I’m eating healthy and drinking lots of juice but also stocking up on instant noodles just in case.

Fingers crossed you are able to dodge the plague this semester.

Admittedly it's been a combination of the weather spiking above 100F and recovering from surgery, but there have been several stretches of 3-4 days recently where I never went near the outdoors, even from behind a window. It has cooled off now, though.

fuck climate change indeed.

Yeah, it was kind of a lot (is kind of a lot) and I am carefully not thinking about a lot of it, to be honest. I feel much better now (though I'm still supposed to limit my lifting of heavy things, we're not going to talk about the luggage I am currently dragging around as I head out to visit a friend) but it's really wild how much of my stamina just got straight up deleted by this. The worst part (two days before surgery and 4-5 after) was only a week! How can it have messed me up so much? Bodies are so inconvenient. But I am here, alive and pretty well considering, and I'm so grateful for that.
