2023 Writing Log, Part 33

rynling- I’m slowly working on Chapter 18 of The Demon King. This is a fun point in the story that I’ve been fantasizing about writing for years. Unfortunately, now that I’m finally here, I’m having trouble making progress. I should have just gone ahead and written it when I was feeling inspired. Live and learn, I guess.
- I finished my short story “The Slithery-Dee Came Out of the Sea.” It’s a solid piece of fiction that would work well in one of my zines, but it turned out not to have any fantastic elements. Maybe I’ll rewrite it later, but for now I’m happy to let it sit in a folder and grow a bit of moss.
- I wrote a script for a sixteen-page minicomic called “Apples in the Courtyard.” It’s a gentle postapocalyptic story about a travelling bookseller and a girl who likes old maps.
- I finished my annotated list of free retro horror games on Itchio and sent it to my editor at Sidequest. Fingers crossed we can get this out before Halloween!
- I tried to write meta about Ganondorf in Tears of the Kingdom (here), but idk. My heart just wasn’t in it. The best way I can describe Tears of the Kingdom is that it’s a decent enough game to play between eating weed gummies and going to sleep.
- While practicing faces this week, I ended up drawing an entire tarot card illustration, which I posted on Tumblr (here). I’m not sure how successful this piece is in conveying its theme, but it might be fun to do more of these in the future.
I’m working on a few projects that haven’t materialized yet, but there’s not much to report. I’m just out here doing my Kanye Best.
