Lucida Sidera: Final Fantasy Ladies Zine

Lucida Sidera hasn't opened applications yet, but I've been thinking about what stories I'd like to pitch them.
(1) Ashe reflects on her past and considers the possibility of becoming a Dynast King as she navigates the ruins of Nabudis with Fran and Penelo. Fran plays devil’s advocate, arguing that Ashe would have the power to prevent such horrors in the future, while Penelo slices through Fran’s irony and speaks to the tragedy of all the smaller stories cut short by war.
(2) Having witnessed the Queen Brahne’s slow but steady descent into madness, Princess Garnet makes her preparations to flee the castle. She’s consulted with her uncle and his messenger, and all the players are ready to take the stage. There’s just one final obstacle to overcome – the sharp watch of General Beatrix.
(3) Rinoa has inherited the powers of a sorceress, which bring with them the power to hear an eerie voice calling out from across time and space. As Ultimecia attempts to confuse and fascinate Rinoa with distressing stories of a dystopian nightmare in which the gift of magic is tantamount to death, Quistis and Selphie keep their friend grounded with assurances that the future is still worth fighting for.
Judging from these pitches, it may seem that I am obsessed with evil sorcerer-queens. This is because I am in fact obsessed with evil sorcerer-queens. I love them!!
All three of these pieces would fit nicely into 1,500 words, but they also seem like the sort of stories that wouldn't get any hits or kudos on AO3. I need to think about how to give these pitches more punch, and I also need to think about what to use as my writing samples.
And finally, I should probably set up a portfolio on Carrd. I've been putting this off, but I think it's time. For my icon, I might just use the portrait of Agnes that the zine's promo artist, Allison McKenzie, created for me. I'll probably never get An Unfound Door published; but if I do, I'm going to have to figure out a better way to describe it than to say "this is fanfic about a Final Fantasy game that I wanted to make when I was younger."

Date: 2023-09-26 10:50 am (UTC)These are the stories I want to read too. As I get older, I'm still very interested in the Final Fantasy games as source texts, but type of fanfic I want to read has changed significantly. Like, tell me more about body horror and the psychological consequences of magic, I'm listening.
