- I’m still working on Chapter 18 of The Demon King. I’ve got the chapter outlined, and now I’m mechanically going from scene to scene like checking items off a list. I wish writing were always magical, but sometimes you have to put in the manual labor to build plot bridges.

- I’m still working on my story about Calip and Tauro from Tears of the Kingdom, and I’m enjoying myself immensely. I actually started a new game of Tears of the Kingdom on my Nintendo Switch Lite to collect more background information about the two characters, and I really do think they’re canonically supposed to be lowkey in love.

- My essay about Evergrace was published on Sidequest (here). Hooray!! Maybe nobody cares about this essay or this game, but I care. I’d love to write a substantial academic article about Evergrace, but I’m hindered by the fact that I can’t actually play the game without spending a ton of money on a desktop computer that can run a PS2 emulator. Hopefully the essay presents a strong argument for freely accessible video game archives.

- I wrote a review of Emily Carroll’s newest graphic novel, A Guest in the House, and submitted it to my editor at Women Write About Comics. I wish my review were as beautiful and poetic as the book itself, but I haven’t felt very inspired in my writing lately. What I want to say is that A Guest in the House is like Dark Souls, if Dark Souls were a suburban gothic horror story set in rural Canada in the 1990s. I promise this makes sense!

- I got an advance review copy of Hiromi Ito’s Tree Spirits Grass Spirits, which collects twenty-one short essays about plants. The publicist had no way of knowing that I’m the sort of sicko who devotes literal hours of my days to growing moss, but suffice it to say that this book was written for an audience of me specifically. I’ve been writing a review, and this has brought me an incredible amount of joy. By “incredible,” I mean that most people probably won’t understand the appeal of this book, but I personally am in autobiographical plant essay heaven.

- I haven’t drawn anything substantial, but I’ve been sketching a lot lately. Just to have something to feed the social media machine, I posted a tree (on Tumblr) and a terrarium (on Tumblr).

I’m still climbing out of anxiety hell, and it’s exhausting. I have no energy, and I’m sleeping ten or eleven hours every night. I was afraid that maybe I had Covid, but no – I’m just tired. These things happen.
