- I’m about 4/5 finished “Love in the Time of Gloom Spawn,” my story about Calip and Tauro in Tears of the Kingdom. This has been super fun to write. I’ll hopefully finish it this week, and I should be able to edit and post it in time for Halloween.

- I wrote the first half of my story about Impa in Zelda II, which I’m calling “Don’t Let Her Wake.” This is Legend of Zelda fanfiction, of course, but I’m basing my descriptions of the North Castle on the city of Nokstella in Elden Ring. Oh to be a highly skilled assassin guarding a sleeping princess in a ruined underground city!

- I did a substantial edit of my list of “Short Horror Games on Itchio” to get it ready for posting on Sidequest. I also made a full set of banner graphics for the post, which took two full afternoons of work. I wish I were more talented at graphic design, but alas. I’m doing my best.

- I contributed to a Sidequest roundtable on “cozy horror games for weenies,” which was a lot of fun. What I really wanted to do was talk about why A Link Between Worlds is the perfect game for Halloween, but I think maybe I’ll take that idea and turn it into a full essay, perhaps when I do a replay this coming summer.

- I posted my historical lesbian vampire romance story “The Kumo Diary” on AO3 (here). This one is worth it just for the illustration by Paristandard, a kind and lovely person who nevertheless manages to craft truly creepy character designs.

- I sold out of my botanical horror fiction zine on Etsy, so I posted a digital edition on Itchio (here).

- I also sold out of my Haunted Houses zine. Since this was so (relatively) popular, I ordered one last reprint of forty copies, but I also went ahead and posted a digital edition on Itchio (here).

Damn. It has been a week. To distract ourselves, my husband and I went to Halloween Nights at Eastern State Penitentiary, which includes five haunted houses and half a dozen open-air bars and beer gardens. The haunted houses are extremely creative and disturbing, and the (local art school student) performers genuinely seem to be enjoying themselves. Despite the horrors, there’s always a very chill and positive energy to the event. You wouldn’t think this would be kid-friendly – like I said, it’s extremely gruesome – but a lot of people bring their kids, and it’s all good vibes all the way down.

I'M DOING MY BEST

Thank you, this really made my day at a time when I was feeling a bit rough about writing, and I appreciate that immensely.
