2023 Writing Log, Part 45
Dec. 28th, 2023 12:13 pm- I edited Chapter 12 of my original gothic fantasy novel An Unfound Door, and I’m about halfway through Chapter 13. Slow and steady, friends. Slow and steady.
- I finished a short botanical horror story called “Yearwalking” and submitted it to Myth & Lore magazine. I actually think this would make an excellent minicomic, and I’d like to rewrite it as a comic script during the next few weeks.
- I'm working on an application for a Philadelphia-specific writing workshop called Writing in Place. Writing short fiction about Philadelphia has been my pet project for the past three years, so hopefully this can be my opportunity to develop my craft and make some friends while getting a foot in the door of the propub fiction scene. Fingers crossed!
- I wrote a complete outline of a Zelda/Ganondorf novella called “Lay the Gods to Rest.” It’s going to be a very low-stakes and low-pressure writing project, but I’m interested to see where it goes.
- I’m slowly rewriting a section of the Casa Con talk I gave on postapocalyptic themes in video games into a Tumblr post called “The Two Kings in Tears of the Kingdom.” Hopefully it will be a manageably short post and not another novella about Ganondorf.
- I colored a sketch of a clean end-of-year desktop and posted it on Tumblr (here).
- I did a few studies of video game trees and posted three of my favorites on Tumblr (here).
I got a lot of rejection notifications during the past two weeks, but that’s just how it is. With any luck, I’ll get even more rejections next year – but hopefully a few acceptances too!
