- I’m still chipping away at Chapter 13 of An Unfound Door, an original gothic fantasy novel. The opening of this chapter was tough, so I wrote it out of order. Now (thankfully!!) I only have the final scene left.

- I wrote the first three chapters of “Lay the Gods to Rest,” a Zelda/Ganon story set in the future of the Tears of the Kingdom timeline. This story is very self-indulgent, but I’ve decided not to care. I went ahead and posted the first chapter on AO3 (here).

- I’m working on a short FFVI story about Edgar and Sabin called “A Senseless and Deadly Mistake.” The premise is that I love Sabin and think he should be allowed to kill his brother’s political rivals.

- I’m working on two video game meta essays. One is about Rauru and Ganondorf in Tears of the Kingdom, and the other is about Terra and Celes in Final Fantasy VI. They’re both relatively close to being finished, hopefully.

- I’m working on a review of the recently published English edition of Gou Tanabe’s manga adaptation of “The Shadow over Innsmouth.” It’s an excellent adaptation. I think the enthusiastic reception of Lovecraft in Japan is neat, so I’m writing a bit about that too.

- I created a list of game reviews on my professional (sort of) blog (here). It’s currently a work in progress, as I’m still writing short descriptions of the games.

- Also, Wordpress changed its autoformatting at some point in May 2022, so I went through all of my old posts to make sure they’re formatted correctly. I’ve been meaning to do this for more than a year. Better late than never.

- I submitted my Seeded Ground minicomic to the 2024 Minicomic Awards. I highly doubt that my work will be featured, much less win, but I hope Leslie Hung and Sloane Leong vaguely recognize my name and enjoy the weird plant murder comics I keep sending them every year.

- I submitted my “Sweet Blue House” story to Ghostwatch Zine, as the theme of the upcoming issue is “Haunted Houses.” I’m pretty sure this isn’t what they’re looking for, but you don’t know until you try. Also… I kind of want to inflict this creepy house on as many people as possible. It’s important to keep the curse going.

- I submitted an application to a local Philadelphia writer’s workshop called Writing in Place. I’m 95% certain that I won’t be offered a place in the workshop. But it would be nice if I were, you know?

Recently, under a publication announcement post on Twitter, I saw someone congratulate the artist, saying, “I know how hard you worked for this.” That really touched me. I generally don’t make a big deal out of how hard I work, mainly because normies tend to see a string of (professionally inevitable) rejections and assume that you’re a failure as a creator. But I think, maybe this year, I’m going to start being more open about all my submissions and rejections. When I finally succeed, I’d like for someone to say to me, “I know how hard you worked for this.”

Each time you post one of these, I'm impressed at how consistently and hard you work on it, and I'm really looking forward to other people (gatekeepers specifically) recognizing this.

Also *eyes emoji* at Celes and Terra essay.
