- I finished editing Chapter 13 of An Unfound Door. It’s a good chapter. Exactly the sort of thing I like to read. I also finished the first section of Chapter 14.

- I wrote Chapter 5 of Lay the Gods to Rest and posted it on AO3 (here). This continues to be a fun story bespoke to my interests. Every day I look forward to writing it.

- I finished an original short speculative fiction story titled “Limerick Incident Interview Protocol,” which imagines that foreign scholars are researching a nuclear accident at the power plant outside of Philadelphia. This required a ton of research for not a lot of words, but it’s an interesting piece of flash fiction, I think. I’m going to let it sit for a week or two before I think about what to do with it.

- My mini-review of Yoko Komori’s manga Mermaid Scales and the Town of Sand appeared on the January recommendation post at Women Write About Comics (here). It’s a sweet and gorgeous one-volume manga about a young girl confronting death and abandonment in a small seaside town.

- My mini-review of Vandana Singh’s short story collection Ambiguity Machines appeared on the January fiction roundtable at Women Write About Comics (here). I feel a bit guilty about recommending something that came out six years ago, but it’s always good to show some love to the back catalogs of small presses.

- I drew another face study and posted it on Tumblr (here). I’m really enjoying doing these!

- So I drew another face study and posted it on Tumblr (here). This was fun, but I think maybe I’d like to stick to women for now. Facial hair is difficult to draw.

- Speaking of drawings that didn’t turn out how I expected, I decided to leave a planned illustration on the theme of “potion” in the composition sketch stage. My reasoning was that I didn’t want to put in the time to draw a bunch of details on a piece that would get maybe fifteen likes on Instagram if I’m lucky, but the sketch is decent. I posed it on Tumblr (here).

After being very sick for more than a week, I’m behind on everything and struggling to catch up. I already dropped the ball on a(n admittedly minor) commitment, and I’m trying to be kind to myself instead of jumping directly into a guilt spiral. It’s only four weeks into the semester, and I already need a break. I think it might be a good idea to take the rest of the day off and play video games.
