The Inside isn’t so much a visual novel as it is an illustrated prose-poem about a haunted fishing boat adrift at sea. It takes about two minutes to read (by clicking the space bar), during which time the background music swells into something very creepy.
The Inside was made with a visual novel engine called Videotome, which is free to access in a basic and an enhanced version:

Based on the comments, it seems that perhaps this tool isn’t as user-friendly as it could be, but I’d like to bookmark it and come back to it later, maybe.
