2024 Writing Log, Part Twelve

- I finished the third section (out of four) of Chapter 15 of my original gothic fantasy novel, An Unfound Door. I also finished a thorough set of edits on Chapter 14. I really enjoyed myself. How amazing that this story was written solely to appeal to me and my specific set of interests.
- I finished “An Elegy of Earth and Sky,” a story about the goddess Hylia based on the creation myths in Ocarina of Time and Skyward Sword. I’ve been slowly working on this for months, so I guess I can wait another week to post it. It could probably benefit from some extra room to breathe.
- I posted an essay analyzing the shittiness of the “writing style” of ChatGPT to the Get Your Words Out writing community (here) on Dreamwidth. If you don’t have access, I’ll probably post this essay on my public blog in April, but the TLDR is that humans will always write better than large language models. Like my summary of the background lore of Bloodborne, these thousand words took a month of intense research.
- Climbing back onboard the graphic design train, I created a wallpaper design featuring my beloved cherry blossoms. I posted it on Tumblr (here).
- Back in January, I submitted a story to a magazine, and they said they accepted it. But it wasn’t actually in the magazine. So, after I received the copy I ordered, I wrote to the editors to ask if they’re planning to publish my story online, or in a different issue. They said they got a few late submissions that they liked better than mine, and that they made a mistake in telling me they’d print my work. Jeez.
- While updating my fiction submissions spreadsheet, I decided to check in with the Minicomic Awards. I guess they already ran the livestream announcements without emailing anyone or including it in their newsletter. I didn’t get a mention, and I wasn’t expecting to, but still… Better luck next year, right?
Not much to report this week. I miss my dog.
