Some unorganised thoughts on the recent ai art debacle

I’m broadly unsympathetic to the idea that human creativity will be obviated by anything. I think value consists if not totally then at the very least primarily in conscious experience. If you think creativity is a means to economic productivity then I can see your fear that human creativity will become obsolete and I can sympathise to a degree, I think you’re probably right about that fact. But I think it’s deeply limiting to consider the purpose of human creativity to be broadly construed by economic productivity.
I tend to agree with the conclusion of this essay, and I appreciate the nuance it explores along the way.
I've heard people say that there's no room for nuance in conversations about machine-generated art and writing, but that's so boring. What's the point of not being a machine if you aren't curious enough to poke your nose into all of the weird corners and dead ends of an argument?
