2024 Writing Log, Part 24

- I got started on Chapter 19 and Chapter 20 of An Unfound Door.
- I finished Chapter 12 of my Tears of the Kingdom fanfic Lay the Gods to Rest. I did a lot of research about mining for this chapter but ultimately came to the conclusion that nobody wants to read about that. Instead of mining, I wrote about pining. The chapter is on AO3 (here).
- I made a short post about “Games like Echoes of Wisdom” on Tumblr (here). There’s an alt version on Twitter (here), and I posted the full version on my public-facing blog (here). I might actually update the blog version to include more text, plus a recommendation of the game Hob, which I’d forgotten was available for Switch.
- To give me inspiration to complete a story I started earlier this summer, I commissioned LunarChibistry on Instagram to create a portrait of Riju from Tears of the Kingdom. I posted it on Tumblr (here). This artist draws beautiful (and super affordable) chibi character portraits that you can order through Ko-fi (here), and she’s a very sweet person who’s a pleasure to work with. This was such a good experience that I actually turned around an ordered another commission from her immediately.
- I drew a variation of Sonia from Tears of the Kingdom based on a DTIYS design by Asma.art on Instagram. I posted the illustration on Tumblr (here).
- For the Sonia illustration, I got to try out some of the brushes in (this set), which the artist has generously shared for free. I love painting clouds, and I also love expanding my skillset bit by bit as I get more comfortable with drawing backgrounds.
- The latest WWAC monthly comics recommendation post is live (here). I had the pleasure of writing about how much I love Shima Shinya's four-volume sci-fi manga Glitch, which tells an accessible multiverse story through stylish art while presenting a positive model of diversity in Japan.
- I reprinted two of my short fiction zines: Haunted Houses, and It Never Happened. I also designed the sticker, bookmark, and ACEO card for Strange Things Happen in Philadelphia. The layout for the Strange Philly zine is complete, and now I just need to finish the line editing.
I haven’t been able to concentrate on anything for more than five minutes this week. ADHD is like that sometimes. Instead of writing, I spent a lot of time outside with my dogs while chatting with people in the neighborhood. I also sat outside and played Elden Ring on Steam Deck. I love warm weather.
