This House Is Clean

My closets are MOSTLY EMPTY.
My hard drive is DEFRAGMENTED.
My credit cards are COMPLETELY PAID.
My tiny dog is UP TO DATE ON HER SHOTS.
My heart is AS PURE AS FRESHLY FALLEN SNOW.
My resolution for 2016 is to spend at least three nights in New Orleans before August. The last time we had a winter like this in the South, Hurricane Katrina happened. If I'm ever going to see New Orleans when it's not in ruins, now is probably a good time.

Date: 2016-01-02 02:28 pm (UTC)I got lucky this year. There were no accidents or emergencies, and no one I know had a big expensive wedding that I had to fly out to.
One of my redneck cousins lives in a suburb of New Orleans called Madisonville, and he was telling me over Christmas that his flood insurance just jumped up by about $100 per month, despite the fact that his house is built on FEMA-approved 12-foot stilts. I hope nothing happens, but apparently I'm not the only one worried.
Of course the boost in insurance rates could have several explanations, and the hurricane tracking websites I've visited haven't been keen on making predictions, saying that the data from recent El Niño winters doesn't indicate any strong conclusions.
So here's hoping that nothing terrible happens to any of us in 2016!
