- This week I edited Chapters 18, 19, and 20 of An Unfound Door. They’re all excellent chapters, if I do say so myself. All of the minor mysteries are neatly solved, thus leaving room for the larger mystery to take center stage at the end.

- I posted a short illustrated meta essay about Chapter 13 on my public-facing blog (here).

- I began work on the dreaded query letter. This has been driving me insane.

- I finished writing and editing “Come Find Me,” a short Tears of the Kingdom story about Ganondorf visiting Link in the form of Phantom Zelda. I’m going to let it sit before I post it, though.

- I commissioned a FromSoft fan artist with a soft but creepy style who goes by Madvalart to draw an illustration for this story. She did an amazing job that captures both the eeriness and eroticism of the scenario, and you can see the illustration on Tumblr (here) if you’re interested.

- I’m hard at work on my “Dark Academia for Dark Times” essay for Bloodletter Magazine, and I’m really enjoying myself.

- The fall fiction reading recommendations post on Women Write About Comics is now live (here). This is an interesting collection of titles, with the common theme being “gay ghosts.” Gotta be one of my favorite themes to be honest.

- This week’s post on my book review blog (here) is a mini-review of the ten-volume slice-of-life fantasy series Dragon Goes House-Hunting, which I respect and appreciate with all my heart. Holy fuck I love dragons so much.

- I’m writing a professional review of Daniel Johnson’s academic monograph Textual Cacophony: Online Video and Anonymity in Japan. It’s a good book; and, unlike a lot of Japan-focused scholarship in the field of Digital Media Studies, it doesn’t make any attempt to celebrate or defend Gamergate. God bless.

- I sold out of most of my zines on Etsy last week. Since it’s not that much more expensive than basic black-and-white, I’m ordering full-color reprints, starting with the botanical horror zine. Instead of using Mixam, I decided to try a local Philadelphia service called Fireball Printing. I haven’t gotten a print proof yet, but they've been fantastic to work with so far.

- I finished the tenth and final panel of my “Trees in Video Games” minicomic, and I posted a textless version on Tumblr (here). The next step is to turn these square illustrations into actual comic panels. After that, I’ll tackle the lettering. One thing at a time.

Well lads, here we are. What a place to be.

Your panel made me smile just to see. Thank you for sharing it.

I could go on a long polemic about how damaging it is to treat the horrors of the world as the mess you rub a dog's nose in to tell them no (and it has the same effect, of actually not teaching the person anything and making them less likely to trust you in the future), but. I'll summarize as saying that joy matters at least as much as, if not more than, the horrors, and good for you for making more of it.
