- I told myself that I’d start writing a short story about wizard detective Fhiad when I finished An Unfound Door, and that’s what I did. The story is called “The Case of the Phantom Portrait.” It’s been writing itself, and I’m just along for the ride.

- I’m also writing a short story about Luigi and Bowser from the Super Mario Bros movie. It’s called “I Think We Should Have a Sequel,” and it’s about how Luigi frees Bowser to go and create more trouble.

- I’m still working on my dark academia essay for Bloodletter Magazine. It’s slow, but it’s going.

- Speaking of dark academia, there’s a conference at Dartmouth I want to attend in the spring, so I wrote an abstract for a paper called “Translating Nostalgia: The Appeal of the Analog in Comic Travelogues of Japan.” This is about Europeans drawing comics about Japan, including Europeans who emigrated from Japan and now treat Japan like a foreign country. If this paper doesn’t get accepted to the conference, I’m still going to write it for WWAC. I’ve wanted to write about analog nostalgia for a while now.

- This week’s post on my Japanese fiction review blog (here) is about the new Murakami novel, The City and Its Uncertain Walls. In short: I didn’t like it.

- I edited my Strange Things Happen in Philadelphia zine, added more art and another story, and sent the second edition off to the printer. I also updated the free digital version on Itch.io, which is (here).

- Inspired by [spoilers] in the game Pentiment, I made a drawing of Zelda styled as the Roman goddess Diana. I planned to draw Ganondorf as Mars, but I don’t want to draw Ganondorf right now. Maybe next week. For the time being, Zelda is on Tumblr (here).

This week I wrapped up all my classes, submitted everyone’s final grades, and sent my last batch of recommendation letters. Between one thing and another, I also anxiety-cleaned my house. I managed to keep my act together for the last few days of the semester, but I’m feeling the strain. It will be nice to chill out and focus on writing during the weeks ahead.
