I want to draw a twelve-page nonfiction minicomic about Koroks.

Unlike the "Trees in Video Games" comic (here), which was a series of square Instagram posts with text overlay, this will be an actual comic that uses pages and panels and the visual language of comics. Instead of my usual style, in which everything is bathed in gold-infused ambient light, I'm going to use a ligne claire flat-color style with inked textures. I really admire Zac Gorman's old Tumblr comics from the early 2010s (you know the ones), and that's the vibe I'd like to aim for.

I wrote the comic script last night, and I'll get started on the thumbnails today. I'm going to draft the pages in pencil in one of those little Muji A5 notebooks (these ones), scan them, and then do the ink digitally. I want to keep the file size small and the art style simple. The point is to work quickly and get it done instead of having everything take six months to draw.

I feel like I have a lot of ideas but zero talent. The more I learn about the history of comics, however, the more I realize that a lot of famous artists had zero talent. What they had was a story they wanted to tell, a decent work ethic, and a willingness to cut corners. And sometimes that's enough, you know?
