Why I'm Watching It: The protagonist has no problem saying what we're all thinking vis-à-vis the male gaze.

Title: Ojisan to Marshmallow
Episode Duration: 3 minutes 30 seconds
Synopsis: A female sex pest publicly harasses an overweight salary worker with marshmallows.
Why I'm Watching It: I can't look away.

Title: Ooyasan wa Shishunki!
Episode Duration: 2 minutes
Synopsis: A college student moves into an apartment building managed by a middle school girl.
Why I'm Watching It: I'm intrigued by the (extremely) oblique suggestion that the girl killed her parents.

Title: Oshiete! Galko-chan
Episode Duration: 7 minutes 50 seconds
Synopsis: Two high school girls discuss common myths pertaining to female bodies.
Why I'm Watching It: The fact that the takes-no-shit popular girl and the cynical nerdy girl share an easygoing and uncomplicated friendship hits me right in the feels.

Title: Yamishibai, 3rd Season
Episode Duration: 4 minutes 30 seconds
Synopsis: A series of demonic women kill and devour hapless men.
Why I'm Watching It: For me this show is like a glossy lifestyle magazine. I feel like I should be taking notes.

Mahou Shoujo Nante Mou Ii Desu Kara and Oshiete! Galko-chan both sound relevant to my interests. :D

I should warn you that both shows are absolute garbage.

The only worthwhile show I'm watching this season is Erased, which seems to be about what manpain can teach us about the human condition a very limited form of time travel affecting an aspiring (but largely unsuccessful) manga artist. This protagonist is 28 years old, and his love interest is a high school student (because anime), but the real star of the show is his mom, who comes down to Tokyo to visit him because of a traffic accident that put him in the hospital.

So far, Erased seems to be a quiet slow burn of a seinen show, but if the mom dies I'm dropping it.

I know it's ten days later, but I just wanted to ping you and say that Erased is really, really good. It's not at all about what I thought it would be about, and the actual premise doesn't do justice to the quiet thoughtfulness and deep suspense of the show.

The other titles are still trash, though.

(Also I took your recs from one of your earlier comments about anime, and I think you have excellent taste, btw.)

Most of these sound pretty appealing. This worries me, given that half of the appealing ones seem to involve murder. What does this say about me.

I think what it says about you is that you have taken the male gaze and converted it into THE MURDER GAZE.

This is healthy and normal.

Personally I stopped being able to take anime at face value sometime around 2008. I felt like I had seen everything before, so I started inventing weird reasons to watch weird shows. Some people watch anime for the shipping, and I get that, but there's an entire category of shows I watch just to see who dies, and how.

So basically it's like Hannibal, except with schoolgirls.
