2025 Writing Log, Part Sixteen

- I’ve been editing my Legend of Zelda x Arthurian legend story. I decided to change the title from “The Last Green Knight” to “A Green and Gentle Twilight” in order to reflect a theme that’s easier to express in five chapters. I also edited the four existing chapters, edited the story description and summary, wrote chapter summaries, and created a folder of image references. Hopefully getting everything organized will help me get started on the final chapter.
- I posted an original botanical horror story called “Belladonna” on AO3 (here). This is a grisly tale of beastly murder in which a cat takes action against the toddler that has monopolized his human’s attention, and I had a lot of fun writing it. I posted a preview graphic with an illustration on Tumblr (here).
- My botanical monster romance story “Prunus daemoniacus” was just published in the Spring 2025 issue of the Monster Magazine anthology zine! You can check out the zine on Tumblr (here) and on Bluesky (here), and you can download a free copy of the issue from Itchio (here). The full issue has some thick and spicy content; but, if you’d just like to read my short + SFW story by itself, I’ve archived a PDF copy (here).
- Did I use my legal name to publish a story in a magazine about monster fucking? Yes I did!! And Lord willing I will do it again!
- I commissioned the ever-amazing FFVII artist Yinza to create an illustration for my recent story (on AO3 here) about romancing one of the failed Jenova experiments in Nibelheim. Yinza drew something ridiculous but very very special, and I highly recommend that you check out the illustration on Tumblr (here).
- I also commissioned actual gallery artist + #1 Vincent Valentine apologist LeSoldatMort to create a botanical horror illustration for an original short story that will appear in my upcoming short fiction zine. Their piece is beautiful and eerily evocative, and they did me the honor of posting it on Bluesky (here).
- And also, I commissioned the magical JupiterRaines to draw Rennala (my best beloved from Elden Ring) letting her hair down while summoning the full moon. Ranni is cool and all, but unhinged divorcées are more to my taste, and Raines’s illustration captures Rennala at the height of her power. You can check out the illustration on Tumblr (here)!
- I’m currently replaying Echoes of Wisdom and having a great time. In honor of how much I love the Sea Zora Queen, I drew a picture of her in the standard water-pouring “Pisces” pose and posted it on Tumblr (here).
My impression of myself is that I’m woefully disconnected from mainstream culture, and that my work has become irrelevant. Everyone has a time to shine, and my brightest moment has already passed. Etc etc. But this week the course enrollment numbers for the fall semester were released, and all my classes are full. Thank goodness. I’m not convinced that this is any real indication of me not being a complete loser, but I’m grateful nonetheless.
