2025 Writing Log, Part 23
Jun. 14th, 2025 07:28 am- I finished Chapter 8 of What Dreams May Come, a Bloodborne-themed Zelda AU. This chapter is stupid and self-indulgent, but that’s okay. It’s exactly what I want to read.
- I got started on two original short horror stories: “Girl from the Other Side,” which is about fungal infestation in postapocalyptic Florida; and “Mycelial Network,” which is about fungal infestation in the ongoing apocalypse that is Philadelphia.
- I finished the base formatting for the second edition of Terrible People, an original dark fantasy fiction collection. I also did some additional light editing to help the stories shine. This coming week I’ll create variant versions of the file for Itchio and for print.
- This week’s post on my book review blog (here) is about Strange Houses, the English translation of the book I was obsessed with last fall about creepy murder houses. It’s a really quick read, and it’s super fun. The ending is a bit goofy, but haters gonna hate. This book was written for me specifically, but other fans of gothic horror and bizarre murders will probably enjoy it too.
- After watching approximately 10k plays of the Silksong trailer, I drew a simple little Hornet and posted her on Tumblr (here). Silksong soon??
- I’ve also been working on some line drawings for two friends’ upcoming nature zine. I probably won’t post them anywhere, but (this) is one that I especially like.
Despite the ongoing horrors this week, the potted plants in my backyard have begun to bloom. Behold my lilies, boy! Look at them:

Date: 2025-06-24 11:38 am (UTC)Today in Philadelphia it's supposed to be hotter than it is in Texas. I hope you're doing okay in Chicago!

Date: 2025-06-27 06:16 pm (UTC)It has been egregiously hot and humid but fortunately I have mostly been able to simply hunker down in the air conditioning and pretend that outside does not exist.

Date: 2025-06-28 11:54 am (UTC)Still, another thing highly productive writers seem to have in common is that they enjoy going on long walks. And honestly. All things considered. I think I'd prefer the "going on long walks" strategy to the "not being able to leave the house" strategy. I don't think I like climate change.
