I know Eddington is supposed to be a satire, but I want to talk more about why it didn't work for me.

Specifically, it's not saying that the anti-masking/anti-vaxxer nutjobs are right, but it is saying that they're human, and that they were people before they became internet-brained caricatures of themselves. And that's fair! My own family was like that, and it's good to see them portrayed with a measure of kindness.

At the same time, the way the movie portrays people who started to join the BLM movement during 2020 is fucked up. Basically, girls who care about BLM just want black dick, and boys who care about BLM just want white girl pussy.

And it's fine to mock people for being obnoxious on the internet, but I think there's a significant difference between listening to numerology YouTube channels and deciding that Bill Gates is injecting people with microchips... and watching the actual bodycam video of what happened to George Floyd and getting viscerally upset about it. Like what would this movie say about the pro-Palestinian movement, you know?

I think I'm also starting to get the sense that maybe Ari Aster doesn't like women. What can you do.

it's the South Park approach to politics. You don't like hypocrisy or idiocy on either side, fine! but then you call everyone left of "hunt the poor for sport" hypocrites and idiots for ::checks notes:: caring about something, and expect me to laugh along because you also make fun of the right. Fuck off, some things actually do matter and you're not clever because you can't tell which is which.

....sorry, apparently I had that rant in the chamber for a while. o_o
