2025 Writing Log, Part 32
Aug. 16th, 2025 08:28 am- I finished the final set of edits on my first original novel, An Unfound Door. Now it’s time to begin querying.
- I finished the final set of edits on “The Case of the Phantom Portrait,” an original wizard detective story. Now it’s time to begin submitting.
- My original Lovecraftian horror romance story, “The Annotated Kitab al-Azif,” was accepted for publication by The New Absurdist, and it should be posted on the site (with cover art) at some point during the next two months. Nice!
- My original cat-themed murder mystery story “Angus and Peaches Get Away with Murder” is going to be published in September in Miaow: A Cat Zine. I posted a story promo on Tumblr (here). I created this graphic myself with assets I borrowed from the zine website, and I think it’s very cute!
- My original short fiction collection Green Dreams: Tales of Botanical Fantasy is back from the printer, and I posted a listing on Etsy (here). I also posted a free digital edition on Itchio (here). On seeing it in print, I am once again amazed by the gorgeous cover art created by Frankiesbugs.
- I posted the seventh chapter of What Dreams May Come, a Bloodborne-themed Zelda AU, on AO3 (here). This chapter features a fun environmental illustration of Zelda navigating a High Gothic city by the brilliant RainbowPhilosopher.
- I also posted “The Wind at His Back,” a oneshot story about Zelda and Link in Spirit Tracks, on AO3 (here). I had the pleasure of contributing this story to Enchantment, a magic-themed Zelda/Link zine that’s free to download from its site on Carrd (here).
- My review of Hero Cave, a dark fantasy comedy graphic novella, just went live on Comics Beat (here). This comic is only about fifty pages long, but it’s surprisingly powerful and cathartic. Also this is the nonbinary representation (ie, eldritch monstrosities) that I love to see. Good shit right here.
- This week’s post on my book review blog (here) is about a bestselling novel called Kiriko’s Crime Diary, which follows a 76yo woman who is facing mandatory retirement without a social or financial safety net and therefore decides to embark on a life of crime. The story is a gentle comedy with a happy ending, and it’s a lot of fun. Be old do crime!!!!!!
- I’m a big fan of the Cyerce nigricans sea slug, and one of my art goals for this year was to see if I could translate its distinctive markings into a fashion design. I’m not sure how successful I was, but I had a lot of fun with this drawing. I posted it on Tumblr (here).
- I am not very good at art!! But in my defense I did write a novel.
Big week this week. Unfortunately I failed to plan any sort of celebration, and now I feel lost. Idk man. Later today I might drive to New Jersey and spend an hour or two staring at the ocean.

Date: 2025-08-22 06:37 pm (UTC)I think this time around I might be trashy and visit Atlantic City instead. This is embarrassing, but they have one of the last Rainforest Cafes in the country, and I kind of want to go. Truly New Jersey is a garden state of wonders.
