- I’m still working on Chapter 19 of The Demon King, an original fantasy novel. Slow but steady!

- I edited Chapters 5-8 of The Demon King. These chapters definitely needed some editing, but they’re solid. Still quick, still snappy, and still filled with cool imagery and fun dialogue.

- I posted the final chapter of What Dreams May Come, a Bloodborne-themed Zelda AU, on AO3 (here). It took a ton of editing, not to mention an entirely-deleted first draft, but I think I managed to hit the landing on this story.

- This chapter features an illustration of Ganondorf (on Tumblr here) by the Italian comic artist Martina Belli. Marty also created an incredible illustration (this one here) for a Zelda horror romance story I wrote in 2023, and it’s a pleasure to work with her. She draws amazing covers for sci-fi and fantasy books, and her commissions are always open.

- I edited the complete first draft of “The Limits of Human Perception,” the Lovecraftian dark academia story I’m contributing to the Hunter’s Mark Bloodborne fanzine. I spent all summer reading and studying Lovecraft to get the style and tone right, and I think this story turned out okay. It has very nice “The Case of Charles Dexter Ward” vibes.

- This week I only sent one query for my novel An Unfound Door. Every agent wants a different set of materials, and this particular one asks for a lot of things that I had to write from scratch. This was mildly anxiety-inducing, but the saving grace is that I’m a fan of this book, so it’s always fun to tell people about it.

- I pitched my essay about analog nostalgia to Shelfdust, and the site’s Editor-in-Chief was onboard, so I did some hardcore editing, put together the images, and submitted the manuscript. The article will go live on October 15. Huzzah!

I’ve been playing Dark Souls III off and on since the beginning of the year, and this week I finally finished it. I really enjoyed my time with this game, which is relatively small and self-contained but still gorgeous and strange. My character’s name was Strawberry Cream Soda. Strawberry wasn’t as mighty as Jorge Luis Borges (my character in Elden Ring) or as batshit insane as Waffle House (my character in Bloodborne), but he did okay for himself.
