2025 Writing Log, Part 42
Oct. 25th, 2025 07:28 am- I posted “Angus and Peaches Get Away with Murder,” my story for Miaow: A Cat Zine, on AO3 (here). I posted a promo on Tumblr (here), and it features a colorful character illustration by the brilliant and dashing Snakesnack, who was super supportive of my writing and a lot of fun to work with. This was lovely zine project from start to finish, and I felt very honored to be included.
- I posted “A Bet and a Promise,” my third story for the Final Fantasy VI Celebration event. This is a thousand-word comedy about Edgar and Setzer being engineer husbands as they prepare the Falcon for its launch into the World of Ruin. This story is based on something I originally posted on AO3 in 2016, deleted years ago because it didn’t have any kudos, and then almost completely rewrote. I’m not going to post it on AO3 again, but it’s a cute story about two characters I adore, and I shared it on Tumblr (here).
- I started writing “What Slips Through the Cracks,” a short story that speculates on the early-game connection between Hornet and Lace in Silksong. This story is based on a reading of the lore that suggests Lace enabled Hornet’s escape as she was being transported into Pharloom. I don’t have any plans for this story, which may or may not get any attention. If it doesn’t, no big deal. If people like it, perhaps I’ll write more.
- I wrote the next piece of flash fiction for my Ruins zine. It’s called “The Stars Over New Jersey,” and it’s about two people who randomly meet and become friends while taking the medication they need from the in-house pharmacy of an abandoned outpatient clinic in the aftermath of a deadly superflu that’s essentially Captain Trips from The Stand.
- I posted the first chapter of “An Esoteric Training in Power,” a Tears of the Kingdom ancient era Zelda/Ganondorf smutfic, on AO3 (here). Editing this story (which I wrote over the summer) actually makes me want to play Age of Imprisonment, but like. I don’t want to have to buy a Switch 2. Maybe I’ll get one as a present to myself for New Year’s. Maybe.
- Speaking of corrupting Nintendo characters, I got started on a Bowser/Luigi size difference smut story. It doesn’t have a title yet, but in my mind I’ve been calling it “Bowser’s Massive Cock Challenge.” The story is about… Well. I shan’t say.
- I submitted a pitch for an essay about monsterfucking to the sixth issue of Bloodletter Magazine, which is themed on “play” and “kink.” Even if they don’t accept the pitch – which is highly likely – perhaps it’s worth writing the essay anyway.
- And speaking of monsterfucking, this week’s post on my book review blog (here) is about the Gou Tanabe manga adaptation of the Lovecraft novella The Shadow Over Innsmouth. It’s a fantastic adaptation with a marvelous translation, and the art is otherworldly in the best sort of way. Also, can I just say how much the unironic Japanese adoration of Lovecraft amuses me. I think Lovecraft himself would have been delighted by this, honestly.
- Because I love Ms. Hornet from Silksong and her faithful Bell Beast, I had my art of them (this piece here) printed as a vinyl sticker. I only needed one for myself, so I put the rest on Etsy (here). They sold quickly, and I drew a bunch of ink + Copic marker Hornets in the cards I used to send them. This has been an absolute joy.
Perhaps ironically, so much of the year is Halloween for me that actual Halloween week feels somewhat anticlimactic. I will read gothic novels and play indie horror games as usual.
However! This year I’ve been invited to my first Halloween house party since Covid, and it’s “crow party” themed, meaning that everyone dresses all in black and brings shiny trinkets to trade. Because I don’t really own anything besides books, I’m bringing a few dark fantasy graphic novels (like Bowling with Corpses and Helen of Wyndhorn), and I hope their future readers love them as much as I do.
