The sudden decrease in daylight hours has been fucking with me. This is the part of the year where I have to be super organized if I want anything to get done.

So I have everything ready to go when I get back from work, I put my ongoing projects on my desktop, and the thought occurred to me that I have become a caricature of myself.

I think I must be the only person ever who puts nothing on my desktop. (then again, I always have tons of windows open and never actually SEE my desktop, so....)

EDIT: your desktop picture is also extremely you-core.

I usually don't have anything on my desktop either. Visual clutter makes me feel overwhelmed, and it's good to be able to hide things from myself when I'm trying to write or otherwise get work done.

I maintain a system of nested folders inside "Documents," which helps me keep everything organized, prioritized, and on track. I used to think that this is what most people do...

...but now I realize that very few people under the age of thirty know what "folders" even are. This includes my students, who are all STEM majors. They don't know where their files are saved, and they run a search on their entire hard drive + the network cloud every time they need something. This method of file retrieval obviously doesn't work and creates all sorts of problems, but they just don't know any better.

Fun times with kids these days. Skibidi. 6-7. Anyway.

Yeah I've heard that about The Youths w/r/t file storage. I am old enough to remember Windows 3.1 and having to actually specify the file extension for every file. The anarchy of "everything in one place" is incomprehensible to me. (Also too much experience with Windows "search" not finding anything, and therefore I distrust search, lol.)
