Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment
Nov. 5th, 2025 07:21 amYesterday I went to Target for this first time in years (I had to buy specialty cleaning supplies), and I ended up trying out a demo for Age of Imprisonment. I really liked it!
I’m a big fan of sky islands and underground ruins, and Tears of the Kingdom has two entire maps consisting of both of those things. The problem is that the graphics are so washed out that you can’t see anything in either environment – the sun glare over the gray filter on the sky islands makes everything look gray, and the gray filter in the darkness of the underground ruins also makes everything look gray.
This is not a problem in Age of Imprisonment, where all the environments on the screen are high-contrast, high-detail, and gorgeous even under the fluorescent lights of a big box store. The underground areas are especially magical.
The other major problem I had with Tears of the Kingdom is that it’s an action game that forces you to spend an ungodly amount of time in a spreadsheet crafting shitty breakable weapons through a clunky twelve-step process. In addition, the puzzle-solving tool mechanics are imprecise, which can cause big problems when combined with the murky graphics.
Meanwhile, in Age of Imprisonment, they simply put Zelda on the ground, give her a sword, and set her loose. She is powerful and magnificent and I love her.
So I bought a Switch 2. It feels silly to buy a console for one game; but, if I end up putting 120 hours into this Hyrule Warriors game like I did the last one, that’s about $4 an hour, which isn’t unreasonable. Now that I think about it, I bought a PlayStation 5 the last time I went to Target. I only used the PS5 to play Bloodborne for [ I shall not say ] hours before converting the console into a glorified cable box, but I have no regrets.
Anyway, I’m happy to be in a place in my life where I can buy a game console without sweating about it. May everyone reading this be granted the resources to do the same. I wish you money and joy and good-looking video games.

Date: 2025-11-11 02:49 pm (UTC)Back in the day, if someone told me that this was what a Game Boy would evolve into, I would have overdosed on happiness. When it's time to take a break from Zelda, I'm thinking about playing Bravely Default. It was a lovely game on the DS, and I can only imagine how pretty it will be on the Switch 2.
