Some minor, non-spoiler lore notes, mainly about Ganondorf:
- Zelda begins mirroring Sonia’s body language almost immediately. This broke my heart.
- Sonia trains Zelda to use her time powers, but we also see several scenes of Sonia teaching Zelda to use political doublespeak. These scenes are very well-written, not in the least because of Sonia’s gentleness in correcting Zelda’s bluntness.
- Ganondorf spent six months in Hyrule Castle before murdering Sonia.
- Ganondorf doesn’t have much of a personality in this game besides being just about as evil as he can possibly be, but it’s interesting that his main mode of operation seems to involve using proxies for the purpose of misdirection. This is less about his unwillingness to fight (although we never see him fighting) and more about doing what he needs to do to place his own self exactly where he needs to be.
- What Ganondorf calls Rauru’s “arrogance” is Rauru’s insistence on allowing himself to be misdirected instead of similarly using proxies while maintaining his own position. Ganondorf is playing chess like a king, and Rauru is playing adventure hero like he’s Link from Legend of Zelda. Unfortunately, though he’s an asshole, Ganondorf is not wrong about this.
- A lot of what we actually see Ganondorf doing is using magic, and in particular experimenting with how his magic interacts with Zonai artifacts. I do love watching an evil wizard pursue forbidden knowledge. Good for him.
- Ganondorf isn’t directly controlling the Puppet Zeldas (or taking the form of Zelda himself); rather, he creates them from monster corpses and imbues them with his will. In a subtle but horrible creepypasta twist, Puppet Zeldas seem to be quite fragile, and one of them clearly expresses fear and pain in the moment before it’s destroyed.
- I love that Ganondorf is a necromancer in Age of Imprisonment. I love that Zelda is a necromancer in Echoes of Wisdom. I love that they have this in common. Yay necromancy!
- It’s implied that borderline-sapient enemy creatures like Bokoblins, Lizalfos, and Lynels didn’t exist in Hyrule until Ganondorf transformed into the Demon King and summoned them by invoking the Blood Moon. More “natural” creatures, like the Chu blobs and the underground Froxes, were there from the beginning, though.
Also:
- It’s so much fun to play as the Korok. Hands-down my favorite character.
- The Korok has a strong Osaka accent. This is a joy and a delight.
- Apparently ProZDvoices is his voice actor in the English version. Amazing.
