2025 Writing Log, Part 51
Dec. 27th, 2025 07:34 am- This week I wrote Chapter 8 of The Archives of Hyrule, a post-TotK modern AU. In this chapter, Ganon takes Zelda out to dinner and goes into full conspiracy theory mode regarding the Zonai. Unfortunately for Zelda, Ganon is 100% correct about everything he says.
- I also edited Chapters 1 and 2 of the story. My focus is on moving forward, but I had some extra time this week.
- I’m still working on my Sephiroth story, but I got sidetracked with reading wiki entries and Reddit posts. I want this story to be canon compliant, but there’s a lot of canon!
- I got started on a Final Fantasy VI story about Terra and Celes called “The Nameless City.” It’s set about ten years after Kefka’s Tower falls, and it posits that (a) magic definitely still exists, though Espers do not; and (b) there are still all sorts of ruins from the time of the Magi, including an entire lost city under Mobliz. More than anything, though, this is really just a story about Terra and Celes being friends.
- This week’s post on my book review blog (here) is about a manga short story collection called Nishiogi Kitan, or “Strange Tales from Nishiogi,” with Nishiogi being a fictional neighborhood between the trendy West Tokyo suburbs of Ogikubo and Kichijōji. The stories are lovely slice-of-life magical realism about humans living peacefully alongside various supernatural creatures; and the artist, who used to draw BL fancomics about Yotsuba&!, brings a similar sort of good humor to this collection. I’d love to see it translated.
- I’m still trying to figure out how to draw men, and I made a cel-shaded sketch of my wizard detective Fhiad. I’m not going to post this anywhere, but it’s (here) if you’re interested.
- Both my brain and my heart tell me that, in order to draw “attractive” male characters, I need to move away from using an anime style. Unfortunately my sinful hands will not listen. I’ll keep working, but in the meantime I’ll continue to draw cute girls as usual.
- The cute girl I’m drawing this week is the Great Fairy from Echoes of Wisdom! She’s still a work in progress, but what I’m trying to do is take (this) tiny chibi character model and give her slightly more realistic features. (This) is the line art I have at the moment. Hopefully I can paint some color onto this lovely lady and post the illustration later this weekend.
This week I’ve been indulging myself with books and video games. Life is good. ☕

Date: 2026-01-07 03:24 pm (UTC)(a) I should save the horror for a different story, because
(b) I am so tired right now, and
(c) Terra and Celes deserve nothing but good things.
I saw "Terra & Celes" on the tag list for this year's Candy Hearts Exchange, so I'm thinking of giving this story a week or two to rest before posting it as a treat (if the tag is actually requested, of course).
One year for Yuletide, someone treated me with an entire novella about Zelda II that they'd clearly been working on for quite some time, and I was blown away that they gifted it to me. I'm still blown away. Like, they had this story, and they didn't know what to do with it, but then the perfect reader materialized. I know that sort of thing isn't what exchanges are meant for, but damn if I don't appreciate it anyway.

Date: 2026-01-09 11:04 pm (UTC)I feel like as long as it fits the prompt/requests/wants and DNWs, there's nothing wrong with the impetus to finish a story that hasn't been made public yet and share it as part of an exchange.
