Controlled Plant Lists

So I was thinking about planting kudzu at [redacted], which is rumored to be the future site of [redacted] headquarters in Philadelphia, as a small act of eco freedom fighting. I was curious about whether accidentally sneezing and scattering the seeds I might happen to be carrying in my hand on a walk is actually illegal. It turns out that it is!

In the state of Pennsylvania, kudzu is classified as a Class A Noxious Weed, meaning it "cannot be sold, transported, planted, or otherwise propagated." Okay then. Noted. I will listen to the botanists.

English ivy isn't on the list, though. Nor are sunflowers. Also noted.

I noticed that there's something called "giant hogsweed" at the top of the Class A list. That's a great name, so I googled it, and wow. Giant hogsweed looks like Queen Anne's lace (a lovely white wildflower that's all over London), but it's substantially larger. And I mean like. Substantially. If you're into botanical horror, this is a fun one.

Giant hogweed is pretty gnarly! As I understand, if you get the sap on you, and then are outside at all before you wash it off, you will get sunburned. Period.

For a plant that's gonna piss people off and inconvenience them but also slot nicely into the local ecosystem... ... I found at least one vendor online that claims to sell seeds for eastern poison ivy. Snacks for birds and bugs, itchy weeping blisters for [redacted]. Life could be a dream.
