Game Poems is an interactive magazine dedicated to exploring the artistic and poetic potential of short-form videogames by publishing new work directly in a playable format.
I'm gonna be real, this project seems extremely pretentious in a very cringe way. Still, maybe some of the games themselves are good? I'm looking forward to exploring this collection.
A heads-up, I guess, for any "All AI Is Bad AI" people: a few of the game creators acknowledge using Gen-AI to help them as they struggled to learn unfamiliar programming languages.
My personal take is that it's kind of mean to tar and feather non-profit indie creators for making use of the resources they have. In my mind, a fledgling game designer getting algorithmic help with programming is sort of like me using the brush smoothing settings in Photoshop, meaning that it's a welcome obviation of a small but annoying barrier to the process of artistic creation.
But your mileage may vary, and that's okay. It's always good to have pushback against Gen-AI. Especially at this particular moment, I think.
