The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Apr. 6th, 2026 07:29 amThe art and animation are extremely impressive!!
Unfortunately, all of the movie’s jokes are in the trailer...
...or in the sections with Star Fox, which are surprisingly well-written.
Mostly it’s just a movie for kids, though. It has all the charm and creativity of the first movie, but it leans into speaking to a target demographic of 5-8yo children. The theater in West Philly where we went to see it was filled with little kids, and they really seemed to love it.
I liked it okay, I guess. There’s definitely enough Bowser/Luigi material to work with!

But honestly, I'm so happy for you that this is a thing in your future. The people who worked on the Star Fox parts of the movie clearly put so much love and care and attention to detail into what they were doing. I can give or take the rest of the movie, but those parts were really something special.

This is a very long-winded way of saying 'yay!', I think.

It's gorgeously kinetic in terms of cinematography, but I guess Nintendo couldn't afford writers after they paid all the animators. I'm given to understand that this is something of a deliberate choice on the part of the producer, Shigeru Miyamoto himself. Given the absolute mess of the Sonic movies, I guess I can understand where he's coming from.
The Bowser parts are still good though 🔥
